JAMES J. GORNEY, a former insurance adjuster, is a graduate of George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia. He has been practicing law for over 25 years. His practice is primarily civil litigation with an emphasis in real estate, personal injury, commercial litigation, title insurance litigation, wills and estates.
Mr. Gorney is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and is the immediate past President of the Charles County Bar Association. He is also currently serving as the President of the Kiwanis Club of LaPlata and is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Charles County Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland–Peer Review Committee and the Charles County Judicial Nominating Committee.
Mr. Gorney has been appointed as a Settlement Conference Facilitator with the Circuit Court for Charles County, Maryland. He has served as a speaker with the Maryland Land Title Association. He serves as a volunteer with the Honor Flight Network and has been a member of the Greater Waldorf Jaycees for over 20 years
Mr. Gorney is also licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
Mr. Gorney concentrates his practice on civil litigation. He has litigated real estate disputes, automobile accident cases, landlord/tenant matters, collection cases, and other business issues. While associated with Richard Kramer’s office in Oxon Hill, Maryland, he acted as underwriting counsel for a major title insurance company. For the last 25 years, Mr. Gorney has also handled title insurance claims for most of the major title insurance underwriters.
